Passing on the fee - Surcharge

Pass on part of the surcharge for more expensive cards to the customer and maintain your margin.

How it works

For unregulated cards—typically business cards or those issued outside the EU—transaction fees are higher. A surcharge allows you to pass on part of this fee to the payer, thereby reducing the costs you incur.

The payment gateway automatically recognizes the card type. For unregulated cards, it displays the surcharge amount to the customer in advance, and the total amount is increased by that amount. The customer then decides whether to proceed or choose a payment method without the surcharge, such as a QR code payment or a consumer card. You are always paid the same amount as you would be for a regulated card, so you have a predictable margin.

When it is useful

The surcharge is most beneficial for merchants whose customers frequently pay with corporate or international cards.

You'll appreciate the fee transfer if

you receive a lot of payments made with corporate or non-European cards, for example in B2B or wholesale,

you want to set a cap on card payment costs,

you want a predictable margin regardless of the card type.
